WINDMILLS
are a living piece of
American History

The windmill helped settle the west. Windmills allowed farmers and ranchers to settle far from natural water sources. The windmill was used to irrigate crops, water cattle and livestock, and provide water for locomotives when the railroad came west.

Windmills were manufactured by hundreds of companies and the use of windmills spread all over the United States, Latin America, and Australia. We have read that the windmill was even used to pump water to the top of a New York City apartment building to fill a water tank to provide running water in the building.

The rise in the use of the electric motor has greatly decreased the use of windmills. There are only approximately three manufacturers left in the United States. Windmills are still used on ranches, wild life refuges, and on remote home sites. The windmill is a very durable machine, and the wind is free.
